"safe" restaurants

SAFE “fast” food for me to eat in Ocala / Gainesville

  • boston market - chicken, new potatoes, corn, steamed vegetables - make sure to ask for no cornbread
  • chik-fil-a - chargrilled and fruit salad with berry balsamic dressing, french fries, strawberry milkshake
  • crispers - signature summer salad (no crisper things! no onions, swap gorgonzola for mixed/shredded cheese) or chef salad, both with honey lime dressing
  • five guys - cheeseburger, no bun, with lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, and green peppers, french fries
  • mcallister’s deli - bacon spud, spud max, chef salad (no croutons - with ceasar dressing)

Gluten Free foods list from the gluten free gainesville group (I wrote many of these, but not all)  I have to be careful of black/red/white pepper but I can usually pick out onions and garlic and be just fine with a little bit.

  • Ballyhoo- They have a chef that has four food allergies, so they are pretty knowledgeable. The Cedar planked salmon is amazing! It is cooked completely plain on a cedar plank, wrapped in foil. So free of everything. I pair it with salad, and a steamed veggie.
  • Blue Highway - gluten free pizza crust, cross contamination is an issue, call ahead to make sure they have the crust!
  • BJ's - i don't personally eat here, can anyone help?
  • Boston Market - rotisserie chicken, corn, new dill potatoes
  • Civilization - curries, salads (including their Pakora BF pancakes or something like that made with lentil flour).
  • Chop Stix Cafe (on SW 13th ST)  - pad seew with shrimp (ask for gluten free soy sauce instead), fried rice with chicken (ask for gluten free soy sauce), sushi, egg drop soup; (KW: good for vegetarian dishes as well)
  • Corner Latin Confusion - yummy arepas! and batidos (juice drinks)
  • Crispers - strawberry summer salad, no crisper, exchange the blue cheese for shredded cheese, honey lime dressing
  • East End Eatery - the owner is amazing and will help you order, i've had crepes there!! and salads and frittatas, and the gouda cheese grits are so yummy!
  • Embers - fancy duck dish with lobster mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes
  • Five Guys - burger, say no bun due to allergies, the french fries are safe too! also, the hot dog is fine
  • The Jones - the owner is also amazing, but they're a little too "weird" for me so i haven't eaten here much. (KW: As a vegetarian healthfoodie, I love the food, but I have found it necessary to be very clear that I need my meal gluten free, or it might show up with gravy or a side of bread.)
  • Manuel's Vintage Room - they have GF pasta and the truffle cream sauce is to die for!
  • McAllister's Deli - chef salad, baked potato with bacon and cheese
  • Northwest Grill - I have eaten here several times without getting sick. They have fish, chicken, burgers, and salads and are willing to check with the kitchen and take care to avoid cross contamination.
  • O Sole Mio pizza place in newberry - i'm sure cross contamination is an issue here, i ate there and think i got sick from them, but for those without celiac it might work
  • Rolls and Bowls - ask for the GF menu - miso soup is safe as are some rolls and bowls :)
  • Satchel's also has a GF crust, plus 2 choices of vegan cheese
  • The Top has a few GF dishes (curries, salads)
  • Sisters in Haile Plantation- ask for Avalon if you remember.  She is gf too.
